Chapter-14: Under The Sun
Diego sprinted forward and rammed the two daggers deep into the chest of the eagle. Blood gushed out in a boiling hot mess. The eagle yelled and dropped backward. It rolled on the ground while Diego clung on with his legs and crushed his daggers with a death grip, desperate to stay alive.
The sun eagle struggled to regain its footing. It tripped and fell repeatedly. And, with each trip, Diego stabbed deeper. With each fall, Diego pierced upwards like a rock climber. Each move ripped and weakened the eagle, spilling blood and heat all over the place.
With swollen forearms, Diego managed to climb onto the sun eagle’s back. The beast half flapped its wings and strained to lift away into the sky.
Diego’s chest burned as the bird climbed higher and wobbled and shrieked in anguish.
A deep, deep inhale and with his entire life force, Diego plunged downward onto the bass of the eagle’s skull with his two titanium daggers. A loud crunch and a gush of boiling blood shot up, showering Diego in sticky blood.
The sun eagle’s head bobbled about, as the beast crashed into the center of the field. The large bird bounced across the field and smeared several half-buried boulders with blood and feathers as it came to a stop.
The crash sent Diego tumbling about the open field, rolling to a stop after fifteen meters. He stood up quick and caught his head in a dizzy, spinning world. “That was ruff,” he said as he rubbed his eyes and tried to walk straight.
Two steps and Diego stumbled to the floor. Again, he stood. Except this time, he walked sideways into the ground as the sun eagle’s image swirled in his sights. Changing tactics, Diego crawled forward with a spinning head as he struggled to move.
Sweat covered his eyes as Diego reached the sun eagle. He strained to keep his balance, as he stood back up, and stared at the large bird. Copious drops of sweat covered his eyes. He shook his head and wiped his eyes, as a burst of green light emerged in front of him.
Chuey appeared out of the light.
“Superb job, Guerrero, you managed to almost defeat the first beast. Well done.”
Thank you
