Chapter-14: Under The Sun
Diego’s legs wobbled as he walked around the massive eagle. Sweat and heat rolled off his face and arms, as he panted like a winning racehorse. He looked up at the sky and struggled to catch his breath. The sun’s rays burned on Diego’s skin; and he shielded his eyes from the hyper detail of the day.
A loud humming sound rumbled in front of Diego in the direction of the gold and black fog. Shimmering with great force, the golden fog wall burst away revealing a seven-meter diameter circular hedge. It stood with equally spaced stone pillars, and a dome of gold bricks rested on top of the stone hedge. In the middle, a bed with various pillows and blankets called out to him.
“What’s that over there, Chuey?” asked Diego. He spat to his side as his head bobbed about like a drunkard leaving the cantina at 3:13a.m.
Chuey landed on the floor next to Diego. “That’s where you rest. But, before that, I can heal your wounds. Don’t rush; don’t worry about rest or the next battle. For now, focus on finishing the sun eagle before it reanimates.”
In shock, Diego choked and felt faint as he stared at the supposedly dead giant eagle.
“Reanimate … you mean … come back … to life, to fight?”
“Yes, that’s right, to kill you. Act fast and you can avoid that, if you do what I tell you to do, next.”
Diego approached Chuey and hinged forward. He placed his hands on his mid thighs and continued to breathe hard and fast, while sweat gobs dropped from his face to the ground.
Chuey paced in front of Diego before speaking up: “The thing is, Guerrero, I need to be clear about this next part. So, please, pay close attention and repeat after me.”
Diego nodded his head as his mouth remained wide open. He managed to say: “Fine … go ahead … I’m ready.”
Chuey wiggled its beak and fluffed its feathers. “This next step only works in the reality of echoes, nowhere else … now, repeat.” The little bird looked up and stared at Diego with a concentrated gaze and waited.
“Alright, alright … this next step … only works in the reality of echoes … nowhere else.”
