What to Expect?
Brief summary of what the story is about:
The story follows Luz Rey Del’Mundo in 1821 as he journeys across old Mexico to earn back his memories. His goal is simple. Reach the pueblo of Palomas, Jalisco in time to participate in his New Years Eve battle, which he must win in order to earn back his memories.
Not alone, Luz is accompanied by his pit bull assistant, Cana, as he walks the required thousands of miles to reach Palomas, Jalisco, in time for his epic end of the year battle of 1821. Should Luz win, he is promised his old memories back, a stronger purpose of life and an honest meaning in his life.
Along his path to Palomas, Luz encounters a choice in his path that will lead him to break his three-hundred-year-old cycle of no love.
The battle is set once more for New Year’s Eve, 1821. Luz is on the move and ancient magic pumps through his veins. Will Luz win against the greatest foe he has ever faced? Will his new love interest in the past three hundred years help him or hold him back in his fight? Will Luz succeed and gain his lost memories and rub out the void of meaninglessness in his heart? Come, join Luz and his hell hound Cana, and journey along to an end of the year epic battle.
Warning: This novel is for an adult reader audience, for years greater than 18. This novel does contain some graphic violence, sexually explicit scenes and ideas that are too heavy for a younger reader. Also, there is a limited use of some Spanish, but this will not interfere with the story.
Genre: This story is a supernatural quest for meaning in life, from a man’s perspective, set in a tequila western novel with hints of romance elements.
Thematic and philosophical elements:
The main theme throughout this novel is meaning and purpose of personal life. At the heart of this novel, I am exploring why meaning and purpose are so important to a man in life. Critically, I am writing about the idea that meaning and purpose are not found in a man’s life. Instead, meaning and purpose are created by each individual man’s choices in life.
Also, I used this story, Luz Upon The World, to explore and to gain a stronger understanding of consciousness. The key assumption I am challenging in this novel is that consciousness is not one entire piece. As a consequence of rejecting this dogmatic assumption of consciousness, I was able to explain—well, at least from a narrative perspective—various mysterious elements of life, such as: magic, good and evil, time and causality, and human limits of understanding and power.
