Introduction

All minds are at some point in their life disturbed by those ancient monsters: beasts lurking in the shadows, creatures that live within the crevasses of every thought. But, with age and practice we develop defenses. Then, to speak of darkness, we conjure up reasoning and logic and the scientific method to soothe our soul and heart. All is well.

Until, that is, reality bites back with sharp fangs. And behold, there remains one very frightening beast that must not be spoken of, especially in front of educated adults. To speak of it is perceived as ridiculous, unlearned and unsophisticated. So disturbing is this beast of reality that scientists and philosophers are angered at the mere utterance of such a forbidden taboo.

Thus, to speak, even in jest, that there exist eternal human limitations in understanding and proof, is sacrilege. The horror is too unbearable. Even to try and shed some light of reasoning on the shadows and different types of Baba Jagas, El Cucuy and Boogeymen that roam free in the universe—is scoffed at and dismissed as incompetent reasoning and blundering rabble.

Yet, they do exist. All of humanity has limitations of thought and of experience and of proof within the known and unknown reality of the universe. They exist. The creatures of the mind that live and breathe and reproduce far, far away from the reaches of any humankind.

And behold, there is one watching. The Boogeyman does exist. He sits and smiles upon his thrown in the universe.  And he exists and roams freely in our very own personal world. So, listen closely. Ridiculous as it may seem, horrific as it may be, there are at least six questions from the Boogeyman that roams freely in our reality.

First, are human beings capable of proving all truths in the universe? Second, what are numbers; and how far apart are numbers in the universe? Third, does each human being represent a quantity of one, with respect to all other human beings? Fourth, what is an approximate answer to the hard problem of consciousness? Fifth, what is an approximate description of GOD? Sixth, are human beings even capable of understanding and proving the existence of GOD?

The First Question from the Boogeyman in the Universe:

Are human beings capable of proving all truths in the universe?

There are three main claims that will be provided in order to support the answer to this question, which is a strong no. Understandably, the reader may not see these claims or hints or approximations as actual proof in support of a, no answer. However, whatever the answer the reader chooses to support will still be based on choice of assumptions. So, choose wisely, motivated reader; because acknowledging the truth of reality will determine your positive adaptations in life.

The first hint that the answer to this question is a strong, no, has to do with the scientific method. Basically, the scientific method divides all knowledge, all truth and all proof into two sets. In the first set, call it H, we have knowledge, truth and proof of truth that exists in the universe and that can be obtained, developed, understood and known by at least one human being. And, in the second set, call it NH, we have knowledge, truth, and proof that exists in the universe and that can never be completely understood, completely discovered, or proved, or developed by any human being.

Move in closer, motivated reader, and think upon this. The massive problem with the scientific method is that it assumes, without proof, that NH is empty. Now, by definition of an axiom, and by the various axioms used to form the scientific method, this shows that NH is not empty. Moreover, with great humility, my approximation is that NH is infinite.

So, you see, it doesn’t really matter what these axioms are. The only thing that matters is that the foundation of the scientific method does in fact rest on eternal human limitations, which are dismissed (or miracled away) with unproven assumptions.

Of course, there is no doubt that the scientific method is a very powerful tool of thinking and of investigation in our world. Clearly, the scientific method has contributed significantly in producing superb results in: modern medicine, technology, various branches of the natural sciences and the social sciences. Even so, the main point is that, as powerful as the scientific method may be, there are gargantuan limitations within the overall application of the scientific method.

The second hint that the answer to this question is a strong no, has to do with considering human evolution. It is beyond hubris to assume that there exists any human being that is at the pinnacle of human evolution—or of evolution in general. Therefore, it is a much more realistic claim to hold that human evolution is still very much in need of adaptations. More importantly, this means that there must exist physical, mental, and spiritual capabilities that are far beyond any human being’s current state of being. Otherwise, there would be no need to evolve, which would contradict the actual reality of human evolution being in progress.

The main point to be made with this second claim is that human beings are still currently evolving. Hence, this suggests that human beings are limited in what they can currently prove as human beings—since some knowledge and comprehension must always be beyond evolutionary human reach, in order for humanity to evolve.

The third hint that the answer to this question is a strong no, has to do with considering the incompleteness theorems that exist within logic, philosophy and mathematics. And, no, I do not claim to be an expert logician, mathematician or philosopher. But it is the mere audacious idea of incompleteness that rings truth. And, truth behold, there is no guarantee that any human logical system will account for all truths in or out of the universe. The great thinkers of the past held fast to this humbling truth; and they made tremendous contributions to the world because of accepting humanity’s limitations, not despite it.

However, all is not lost. Even though one hundred percent proof of all truths in the universe may be out of reach for all human beings, for all time, there remains much purpose. Through evolution, humanity can approach greater and greater approximations to many truths with time.

1. Are human beings capable of proving all truths in the universe?

No. There will never be any human being, who can or ever will be, able to prove all truths in the universe, due to: limitations in thinking; current progress in evolution; and the incompleteness of the universe, with respect to human beings. However, through the process of evolution, humanity can approach greater and greater approximate answers and proofs to many truths in the universe.
