The Second Question from the Boogeyman in the Universe:

What are numbers; and how far apart are numbers in the universe?

Numbers are a mysterious collection of ideas that serve a very useful purpose in everyday life. They are found in science, mathematics, philosophy, medicine, technology and even in religions. And there are a lot of them. So much so that no human being can ever count all the numbers during any lifetime—numbers are boundless.

A most troubling aspect of numbers is not knowing exactly what they are and where they come from. Though tempting as it may seem, a direct approach to explaining numbers does not seem to be a reasonable starting point. Instead, the analysis of a more fundamental aspect about numbers seems more appropriate. Namely, understanding how far apart numbers are from one another. For instance, consider two cases:

Case-1: How far is the number one from zero? At first glance, this seems like such a trivial matter; and the majority of people will say a distance of one, which is true. But one what? Are the units in meters, centimeters, millimeters or a plank length?

     Let’s see another situation.

Case-2: How far is the number one million from zero? And, once again this seems like such a trivial matter; and the majority of people will say a distance of one million, which is true. But, again, using what units?

Granted, the application of numbers by human beings is an important aspect of numbers. But, why must the distance between any two numbers be restricted by human comprehension of spatial or temporal measures? In other words, why must numbers exist on a type of continuum, such as a number line?

They don’t. Numbers don’t need to bow down to the mind of any human being’s willpower of application. Look back over the two cases. To be more precise, consider the cases within the context of no space and no time. Then what would the answer be?

I claim that since numbers are not bound by space or time, then in or out of reality, numbers are not at any distance or time apart from one another.

Therefore, all numbers can be viewed as existing within infinite points in or out of reality. Meaning that, all the numbers that exist, exist at any and every point in reality. However, the difference is that one particular number emerges to represent that particular point of infinity, within space-time.

In other words, potential infinity describes space and time and physical reality; but, actual infinity, or rather, actual points of infinity are not dependent on space and time or even reality, as observed by human beings.

Of course, numbers do have meaning in space and time within our universe. But this is because human beings (and probably other beings) have evolved to be able to distinguish a measure of distance or of separation between things, ideas, values, actions and events. However, all these qualities seem to be dependent on awareness and connection to reality, which indicates a dependence on some level of consciousness.

As a result, one approximate interpretation of numbers is that they are agreements between separate energy-consciousnesses-points in the universe. And, since any point in the universe exists as an actual infinite point, which contains all numbers, then there must be some interconnected agreement to distinguish one point, one idea, one action and one event from all other points, ideas, actions and or events in reality. Therefore, with respect to consciousness, one representative emerges from each and every actual infinite point, in reality, and must be consistent with the majority of the universe.

In other words, numbers are an agreement between all the energy-consciousness-points in reality, which can be modeled as actual infinite points. And, and … wait for it… wait for it…this implies that all of mathematics functions as it does (in all of science and across the universe) because of agreements established and honored by the majority of all the energy-consciousness-points in reality.

From this perspective, I admit that there is a plethora of other questions that arise when following the interpretation of numbers—as they have been described here. However, the goal of this book is focused on obtaining greater approximations to truth—not in claiming to provide exact and definite and static answers. As such, the analysis with respect to numbers and their distance is, at present, sufficient to continue on. Still, I will say that once a more in depth analysis is provided for consciousness, the universe, reality and life and death—the responses provided here, with respect to numbers, will seem far less contradictory and mysterious.

2. What are numbers; and how far apart are numbers in the universe?

Numbers are an agreement between the majority of the infinite energy-consciousnesses-points in the universe, which allows for the measure of awareness and connectedness of space, time, formed things, ideas, energy, events and all other aspects of reality. And, all numbers exist within any point in reality, as a type of point of actual infinity, which means that there is no distance or time between any two numbers in the universe—there only exists an agreement of consciousness distinction.
