Chapter-4: Satisfy Me
The naked woman picked up Elotro’s khaki coat. It lay folded up, nice and neat, next to the oil lamp. She dusted it off and gagged at the bitter tobacco stench. The coat fit snug and rested just above her hips, leaving her naked from the waist down.
“It’s better than nothing.” She turned to the remains of her blue checkered dress, blushed, and approached it with a bashful half grin. Luz watched her every step, curious and fascinated by her moves. She squatted down and gathered pieces of her ripped dress. One piece at a time she tied them together to form some type of covering.
The frigid night crept into her lungs and tightened her chest, causing her to cough on occasion. From below, the cold bit down on her plump rear end and on her thick legs. Despite all this, she worked fast and tried to ignore the cold. Still, her jittery fingers and hands burned with ice; but, she managed to finish tying together an asymmetrical short skirt.
Another cough and she wrapped her patched-worked skirt around her. It rested high on her hips, and hung down at an angle, all the way to her mid thighs.
“Now for my ….” She scanned the area for her nut-brown cowboy boots; and found one next to Este’s body, and another one six meters north of him. Thick mud clumped all over the heels and sides of her boots. She placed them to her side and attended to her feet first.
The soles of her feet pulsed with heat and sharp pains. While her insteps and ankles ached with cold pins and needles. And apart from this discomfort, her feet were caked with cracked mud. She used a leftover torn piece of her dress and wiped her feet, maneuvering the cloth between her toes.
The woman used the large granite boulder in front of her for support. She hinged back onto her cold seat and shivered. Goose bumps spread over her butt and lower back; but she continued, banging her boots together a few times. Then she banged them on the granite boulder one at a time. Satisfied with her boots, she grunted and pushed her sore feet into them. Pain fired up in her left boot, forcing her to hold her breath. Despite this, she heaved and pushed and managed to get her left boot on.
All done, she adjusted her hair and turned her attention on Luz. She stared at him. A mixture of feelings swirled within her. Half of her emotions urged her to escape; half motioned for her to stay. But none of those fears mattered now. She didn’t need her feelings to understand where she sat.
I belong to him now. She smiled with a nervous skipping heart.
