Chapter-3: Responsibility, Goals and Success
Before discussing the learning process in chapter 4, I must be clear about three important concepts within the art of studying and learning. Unambiguously, I am referring to responsibilities, goals and success. These three concepts are the dynamic machinery that any person interested in studying and learning must operate. And the processes involved with these fundamental moving parts must be adequately understood.
Specifically, this chapter will address five dynamic parts needed for learning and studying. First, what is responsibility? Second, what are the five responsibilities of purpose from evolution? Third, what is a goal? Fourth, how are goals created? Fifth, what is success?
The First Dynamic Part Needed for Learning and Studying:
What is responsibility?
To begin, I claim that any responsibility is intimately connected with positive evolution. Furthermore, I assert that every person has a general purpose within evolution. And, that this general purpose can be expressed in conjunction with the definition of responsibility, with respect to evolution. In other words, when a person claims to be a responsible individual, this claim must fit within a long-term evolutionary framework. Otherwise, being responsible in life will be a contradictory, mystifying and useless idea.
At present, it is best to approach the definition of responsibility from the perspective of free-will. Since every person has free-will; then the choice of good actions, or of evil actions, will always be present in a person’s life. As such, the best that can be approximated, currently, is that being responsible must fulfill some set of positive evolutionary criteria, within reality.
Therefore, being responsible must be focused on: creating life; nurturing life; protecting life; developing motivation; pursuing knowledge; developing creativity; balancing motivation and fun; choosing the development of good in the universe; and above all, to develop one’s strength in honesty towards truth in physical reality.
With all that said, here is an approximate definition of responsibility:
Responsibility is the skill of using free-will to accept and to produce the required interactions with reality, which are needed in order to work towards a goal in life, in accordance with positive development in evolution.
At this point, here is my approximate solution to the first dynamic part needed for studying and learning.
1. What is responsibility?
Responsibility is the skill of using free-will to accept and to produce the required interactions with reality, which are needed in order to work towards a goal in life, in accordance with positive development in evolution.
The Second Dynamic Part Needed for Learning and Studying:
What are the responsibilities of purpose from evolution?
For greater clarity, I will state the areas that all responsibilities must connect with, or address within evolution, in order to be considered an actual responsibility. Moreover, I will refer to these areas as responsibilities of purpose from evolution.
Responsibilities of Purpose from Evolution
1. All individuals are conceived with the general purpose of creating life, nurturing life, shielding life and moving life forward in time.
2. All individuals are conceived with the general purpose of pursuing knowledge and for developing their creativity in life.
3. All individuals are conceived with the general purpose of developing their willpower, within their daily practice and training of motivation.
4. All individuals are conceived with the general purpose of maintaining balance between fun and motivation; and for the minimization of pleasure in their life.
5. All individuals are conceived with the ultimate purpose of choosing between being good or being evil throughout life, in the universe.
The main take away from these concepts of responsibility is that every choice, action, belief or practice in a person’s life is meaningful and with purpose. From the beginning, every person contributes to the success of all life. This is because every person is given a general set of responsibilities at the instantaneous moment of conception. That is to say, from an evolutionary perspective, all life has a general purpose that contributes to the specific advancement of all current and future life. Which means, all choices, no matter how small, will have an impact on human reality, adaptation and specific direction in evolution.
2. What are the five responsibilities of purpose from evolution?
The five responsibilities of purpose from evolution are: 1.) create and protect life; 2.) develop knowledge and creativity within self; 3.) regular willpower development and training; 4.) balance motivation and fun; 5.) act and develop good in oneself, with others and with the family.
The Third Dynamic Part Needed for Learning and Studying:
What is a Goal?
Closely connected with responsibility is the process of a goal. These two ideas are intimately connected because they produce focus and direction in life. In a more fundamental way, without a deliberate goal, a person cannot be deliberate in their responsibilities in life. As a consequence, quality of life becomes a huge problem when a person is unable to establish and carry out goals in life. Hence, understanding the intricacies surrounding a goal will be crucial for studying and for learning—and, for life in general.
For this reason, having at least an approximate definition of a goal; and, a rough outline of the process involved in creating a goal, are vital.
3. What is a Goal?
Goal is the practice of using free-will to choose an action, an objective or a result in reality to pursue and/or accomplish with life.
The Fourth Dynamic Part Needed for Learning and Studying:
How are goals created?
At this point, I turn the focus to the basic steps involved in the process of creating a goal. Of course, others may have slight variations to these steps; but, in general, the steps listed below will suffice.
Steps to Creating a Goal:
Step-1: Each goal begins with sincerity.
A deliberate, meaningful and purposeful goal cannot be created unless honesty in life is practiced.
Step-2: Each goal must be specific.
A goal cannot be obtained if it is not clearly established. This clarity also lets the individual know when the objective has been accomplished or not.
Step-3: Each goal must be measurable.
A goal that cannot be measured is not specific enough to be obtained. Often, failing to apply a measurable aspect to a goal means that the person is unsure of the goal. Practice faith and be honest with your true goals in life.
Step-4: Each goal must be attainable within reality.
Establishing an attainable goal in life requires honest observations in reality as it is, not as it should be. Failing to accept the starting point or nature of reality means that goals may not be attainable in actual reality.
Step-5: Each goal must be relevant to a person’s free-will of choice.
Meaning and purpose in life are created when goals are selected and pursued by free-will of choice. Otherwise, in the long run, a forced goal will subtract from a person’s quality and purpose of life.
Step-6: Each goal must be time dependent.
Life is limited in time, which means that all personal goals must exist within reasonable time constraints. A goal bounded in time creates accountability.
4. How are goals created?
Goals are created by an individual’s free-will of choice to apply six steps in any action or event or state of being in reality: sincerity, specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely.
Example: Writing a Novel.
Goal: My goal is to write a novel within 1.5 years, or 18 months.
- Sincerity: (How is this an honest practice of your life?) Being involved in the process of writing creates meaning and purpose in my life. In all honesty, the pursuit of meaning and purpose is at the heart of my core values in life.
- Specific: (what do you want?) write a western novel, with fantastical elements.
- Measurable: (what does it look like when complete?) 65,000-75, 000 total words, twenty chapters, and 245-275 pages, 8inch by 5inch trim, matte cover finish, 10point word font, palatino linotype word style. Cover design: crossed rifles.
- Attainable: (what plan will you follow?) 500words per day, six days a week, produces 3000 words per week. Then, 22 weeks to 25 weeks minimum to write first draft. Plus, two to three weeks for a rough outline, then roughly in about 25 to 28 weeks, or approximately in 7 to 8 months the first draft will be complete. And, taking into account revisions and edits, another 6 to 10 months. Then total time for completion is 13 months to 18 months.
- Relevant: (why does it matter to only you?) Thinking and solving problems with fictional narrative story telling is currently a highly valuable part of my life. Hence, spending the time, effort and discomfort associated with this goal is meaningful and purposeful in my life.
- Time: (Does this goal exist for you within a reasonable time frame?) I believe I can accomplish this goal with a year and a half of consistent effort and practice. (see Attainable above)
The Fifth Dynamic Part Needed for Learning and Studying:
What is Success?
There tends to be heated disagreement when it comes to recognizing success in life. Often, individuals judge others in haste and declare them to be lacking success—without even considering a person’s goals or motivations in life. In truth, accomplishing the general responsibilities of purpose from evolution can be carried out in numerous ways. Hence, being successful in life can also be accomplished in vastly numerous ways.
More to the point, although success may look different from individual to individual, there are six main factors that establish success, which are: honesty, motivation, responsibility, goals, current limits and blame minimization.
Above all factors, success begins with a person’s free-will with being honest. Highest above all contributing influences, a person must first be skilled with two aspects of honesty: intrapersonal and interpersonal. Specifically, it all starts from within: intrapersonal honesty. Serving as a keystone foundational block, a person must always be honest with themselves and their surroundings. This is because all success depends on accurately collected information from reality. As such, if a person is unable to lift the truth of reality, then results in adaptation in a positive deliberate manner will be diminished.
Success also depends in an equal manner with motivation. Moving hand in hand with honesty, motivation is the ability to use free-will in a deliberate manner in movement by choice. In particular, this means that each person must be honest with their expectations, values and willpower development in life—in order to increase their positive adaptations within reality.
Next, success needs a target—which means having a goal. From this perspective, the accomplishment of success will never be fixed in a specific manner without a specific goal to achieve. Meaning that, to be successful will always be dependent on an individual’s specific free-will target or objective in life. For instance, the pursuit of owning a million-dollar home may be a metric of success for one person; but it may be a metric of weakness or a waste of time for someone else. And, both individual perspectives would be correct because success is a very individual, and a very specific aspect of personal free-will in life. Therefore, the only person that can assess the measure of personal success, will be the individual that has used their free-will to choose a specific personal relevant goal.
Also, success comes to life in reality because of consistent practice and pursuit of responsibility. Not to be confused with any of the other factors of success, responsibility is dependent on proper timely action. Meaning, it is dependent on accomplishing the correct requirements to achieve a chosen goal in life. Moreover, as stated earlier in this chapter, all responsibilities will be connected with one or more of the five responsibilities of purpose from evolution.
In addition, success is inversely proportional with blame. In other words, this means that an increase in blame will decrease a person’s ability to be successful. With added detail, this states that to be successful, in anything, a person must minimize their blame in as many aspects of their life as possible.
Indeed, such is the power of blame, that if left unchecked, success for a goal can drop to zero with even the slightest breath of blame. This is because blame rejects reality, rejects responsibilities and rejects individual free-will to adapt and to choose, and to be accountable for one’s thoughts, beliefs, emotions and actions.
Lastly, success is also dependent on time and growth, which means that there is an upper limit to how much work can safely be accomplished in a given day, week, month or year. For this reason, it is important to practice a growth mindset when pursuing success. Moreover, for life span development, it is best to be deliberate in acquiring a fair share of repose in life—not just existing in a perpetual state of hard work. To be clear, hard work is fine; but it is also important to allow the mind, body and spirit to rest, grow and adapt, and to be rewarded.
5. What is Success?
Success is the free-will of life to accomplish or to progress in accomplishing a chosen goal during life span development in the universe; and, it varies inversely with blame as it varies directly with the product of motivation, goal, and responsibility.
In symbolic form, letting S = success, M = motivation, r = responsibility, g = goal, B = blame and t = current upper limit of responsibility, then an approximate model of success in a person’s life is:
S = [(M)(r)(g)]/[B] For r < t Equation 8.0
S = [(M)(r)(g)]/[2(B+r-t)] For r t Equation 8.1
One of the first aspects to notice about these two equations is the indirect use of honesty. That is, a factor of honesty is not directly stated. This is because honesty and blame can occur for the exact same thing, by using the skill of cognitive dissonance. Meaning, a human being can honestly believe that something is their fault and that it is also not their fault.
Therefore, the most critical aspect to measure and to manage in life is the dramatic influence blame will have on any level of success. Meaning that, a decrease in blame results from an increase in honesty with reality. While an increase in blame results from a decrease of honesty acceptance of reality. Of course, hardships happen in life: accidents happen, the weather happens, natural disasters happen, life happens, and death happens. Now, a person can choose to view these hardships with honesty or with blame.
The view with Honesty: The practice of honesty will acknowledge and accept these hardships of life. However, the practice of honesty does not stop life. Honesty continues to move, to adapt and to live toward better states of being, regardless of starting or developing or diminishing states of being. The practice of honesty admits all positive; and the practice of honesty admits all pain, suffering, unfairness and tragedy of life. Though, more importantly, the practice of honesty realizes that life does not owe you any guarantee of anything in life. There are no guarantees of outcome in life, aside from death and taxes.
The view with Blame: The practice of blame rejects the hardships of life. Blame expects and demands a positive guaranty throughout all life. Blame only values the joy, the pleasure and the happiness of life. Hence, blame rejects reality and the reality of being human. To be human is to be completely enveloped in evolution. Evolution occurs when hardships are faced and met with the free-will to advance in life, no matter what the current state life may be in, and will find itself in.
Even when completely justified or reasonable, a person must always guard against the temptation to slip into the practice of blame. Although enticing to dismiss setbacks with blame, this practice will hinder a person’s success. Expressed in another way, blame is the relinquishing of a person’s purpose, responsibility, accountability and growth in life. As such, blame is a very deadly practice in any area of life.
Apart from the specific factor of blame, clarification is needed with the claim being made in equation 8.1. In this particular model, I am considering the over burden of responsibilities to be a form of blame for others in life. For this reason, when a person undertakes the responsibilities for a particular goal that requires the participation of two or more individuals, then success and/or health will suffer in the long run. Furthermore, a person that continues in this type of lifestyle for an extended amount of life, will decrease their quality of life and purpose in life.
Lastly, success can also be viewed as a skill, since motivation is involved. Meaning that, accomplishing smaller goals builds up a person’s ability and honesty to achieve greater and heavier goals in life, which translates into greater personal success. Therefore, the process of success depends on gaining momentum and developing growth over time from any given point in life. In other words, to be successful in life is to be dependent on being consistent with deliberate honest work. Of most importance, it does not matter so much where a person starts; only that a person starts to walk the path of change to become personally successful.
