The Ninth Foundational Belief of Consciousness:
What is the rough draft process?
I am aware that not all writers follow the same actions in their rough draft process. However, in general, there are ten actions that most writers spend time in, during their rough draft process. At the very least, consider these ten actions of the rough draft process as potential tools to use.
The first action of the rough draft process: Observe reality without hesitation. This is extremely important, because the last thing you want to practice as a writer is intentional rejection of what has grasped your attention in the world.
The second action of the rough draft process: Question your observations with honest faith. Much like the first action, never hesitate to acknowledge what your consciousness has questioned and focused your attention on. In addition, during this action it is severely important that you believe, without any doubt, that your questions will be answered. Never judge or ridicule your questions and your observations of reality.
The third action of the rough draft process: Sense your observations and questions. Practice experiencing your observations and questions with all your senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell, common sense, ridiculous sense and if possible, from an absence of a sense or more.
The fourth action of the rough draft process: Analyze your observations and questions. With a deeper eye, try making sense of what you have observed and questioned. Are there any paths worth exploring? Are there any ideas, people, places, times, locations that are in your attention of curiosity?
The fifth action of the rough draft process: Spend time in unchained wonderment: daydream, imagine, speculate, hypothesize and allow your mind (your total consciousness) to create, to explore and to live.
A warning is needed here. This fifth action in your mind is a very delicate action that requires honest attraction and pure acceptance. Do not, I repeat, do not judge any of the actions, but especially, do not create heavy chains on this one. The worst thing you can ever do during your rough draft process is to filter your writing, with negative feelings, such as: contempt, judgement, embarrassment, shame, rejection, etc.
The sixth action of the rough draft process: Talk with your observations, questions and wonderments. Imagine that you are talking with someone else and be patient for the responses they give you. In reality, you will be talking with someone. Remember, your total consciousness is composed of three types: e-consciousness; ava-consciousness; and i-consciousness.
The seventh action of the rough draft process: Summarize what is observed, questioned and wondered. Begin to scribe down ideas, images, people, emotions, locations, perhaps a possible theme, or anything related to your focus of writing.
The eighth action of the rough draft process: Give yourself permission to get the story wrong, to get the characters wrong, and to get the plot wrong, in order to get your rough draft done. Remember, without the rough draft, no writer can grow a story that can be edited. Get it wrong first so that you can grow your writing with initial edits, revisions, feedback and later edits.
The ninth action of the rough draft process: Always triple C during your rough draft process: consistency; conclusions; and conflict. Be consistent and work on your rough draft as often as you are able to. Consider potential endings that your writing may aim for. Conflict means making sure your character has desires, goals and things that need to be overcome or earned.
The tenth action of the rough draft process: Repeat actions one through ten as often as needed until the rough draft is complete.
9. What is the rough draft process?
In general, the rough draft process consists of ten repeated actions: observe, question, sense, analyze, talk, spend, summarize, give, always and repeat.
