Chapter-4: Satisfy Me
“That’s not a problem,” said Luz. “Cana, do you know where those horses are?”
Three deep barks from behind Nanda startled her into a cough. She turned and dropped her aluminum plate on the boulder as though it weighed a hundred kilograms.
“What … what, in the hell is that?” Nanda fell backward off the boulder, scraping her right hamstring.
A massive dog, the size of a Welch Pony, sat behind her. The hellish dog tilted his head at her and winked and licked his fangs.
Nanda gawked at the beast, terrified to her core. It looked like a pit bull, mixed with a dire wolf, mixed with a bear.
“Cana said the horse you described is ten kilometers north of here.” Luz frowned at Cana and continued with a stern voice, “This time, jovencito, bring it back, alive. Don’t play catch with it. Understand?”
Cana chomped at the air twice and moaned a protest of disinterest. He lifted his nose up higher and sprinted away with light steps.
“Señor … señor … what in the hell is that beast?” asked Nanda. She stared in the direction the creature glided through.
“He’s my assistant, Cana. He’s a pit bull, enhanced by my power of will from the eternal cosmos.”
Nanda picked up her plate and resumed her sitting position on the boulder. All the while, she continued to stare in the direction Cana disappeared through.
“Cana is safe?” asked Nanda. She side glanced at Luz, her heart still racing away in her chest. “Or will it … hurt, me? Oh, and do I also get enhancements?”
“What? No. He’s very playful and doesn’t bite,” said Luz. He reached for a tanned laundry bag by the campfire. “That is, unless provoked or I say otherwise. But don’t worry about him, you’re with us. Remember, you belong to me now. Here, he even searched the neighboring pueblos for some clothes for you.”
Luz handed the tanned bag to Nanda. She opened it and found blouses, trousers and skirts of various colors. After some checking, she found a heavy brown skirt to her size and put it on.
“See, look at that, he found something that fits you. Of course, he did spend a few minutes inspecting your body while you slept.”
Skeletal chills shuddered up Nanda’s spine at the thought of the hell hound inspecting her body.
“Don’t worry,” said Luz, “finish the rest of your plate. He shouldn’t take too long. Oh, and to answer your other question, he is enhanced because his will is different from a human’s. So, no, you don’t get enhancements by belonging to me. It goes against the law of the eternal cosmic will.”
Nanda smacked her lips in disappointment: “It would’ve been nice, though. Hey, señor, where are the bodies?”
