Chapter-16: State of In Between

Diego shivered and felt heavier with numbness. His heart raced and thundered within his chest. His head bobbed about.

El-Gar listened to the life force in Diego ebbing in and out of reality. He yawned and continued, and said:

“Here is a story of a young cub of humanity from eons ago. Once there lived a little cub that sat under a fig tree. The cub, in its wisdom, looked at all the figs and smiled with excitement at the taste of each and every bite. The little one looked left and right and all around the paths of the tree. In earnest, the young cub focused on the countless possibilities that each represented. Time passed and instead of eating any fig, the little cub sat paralyzed, unbound; and didn’t know where to begin, let alone from which path to follow. Time moved forward; but the little one didn’t begin and didn’t eat from any path. In the short end, the young cub died sitting under a large fig tree of life.”

El-Gar flicked his tail and shook his head. He protracted his shoulder blades and stretched his back like a cat, and said:

“Understand this, little cub; give yourself permission to live and to eat from the tree of your life. Don’t focus on the countless possibilities, or on the best choice, or on experiencing every single choice. Be humbled … be humbled, be humbled, young cubs, in your mortality of humanity.

“Give yourself permission to eat and give yourself permission to write your story of life. Don’t’ worry about getting it right in your mind, before living it. Humble your heart, for you are not all knowing … none of you are … and … none of you will ever be. Focus on expanding, exploring and defending life, while holding on to both an understanding of good and of evil.

“Being mortal and being human means that errors will come along your way. Remember, you are not the all knowing. Learn from your mistakes and adjust when mistaken. Difficult for humanity to accept; but no human being will ever know all that was, all that is and all that will be. There is only one all knowing of past, present, echoes of reality, future and beyond.”
