Chapter-14: Under the Sun
Chuey hovered in front of Diego, and continued: “Lack of honesty prevents you from seeing the universe, and from seeing who you truly are. Hmmm … anger and hatred and blame are the main causes to a blindness of reality. Let me see for a moment, don’t move.”
Energy pulsed around Chuey. His wings moved slower and slower until he stopped. He held his frozen wide open wing position, in mid air, and examined Diego. Yellow light glowed and flickered in Chuey’s eyes and then shot straight into Diego’s face.
A deafening sound of humming birds engulfed Diego for five long breaths. And, at the end of the fifth breath, the little green bird landed on Diego’s trembling forearm.
Chuey wiggled his beak. “There is much suffering and loss within you, Guerrero. I understand your weaknesses. And I understand your confusion. No matters, that’s just fine. That’s why you are here, to gain the strength to lift the truth of reality as it is, as the universe is.”
The little green bird flapped his wings several times and landed on Diego’s right shoulder. “There is something else, here.” Chuey shuffled over and pecked at Diego’s ear and said, “You smell familiar … distant, but familiar. Your father did not visit me. Who is next in your lineage?”
An unknown name popped into Diego’s mind, and before he had time to ponder on it, he said: “Leecaleon Gregorio Guerrero.”
Chuey back flipped down to Diego’s forearm. He chirped, jumped and flapped his wings with too much excitement. “Oh, my, my, my … more than half a century has passed since Leecaleon G. Guerrero appeared for the battle of echoes. Yes, yes, I smell you now. You are G.G’s grandson, Diego Guerrero. Are you ready for the first battle to begin?”
Diego shook his head slowly and stared off to the ground and to the grey fog wall. He tried making sense of what he heard. With no such answers coming to mind, he replied, “What battles, what grandfather and what Diego? What do you mean?”
Chuey wiggled his beak and blinked several times at Diego. He stretched his wings down and chirped into laughter. The little bird passed up from Diego’s extended forearm and perched himself on Diego’s left shoulder.
“Simple, simple, simple … your memory is safely buried and shielded deep within your total consciousness. That’s why you can’t think as you did before. Your memories have too much weight, too much disbelief. That way of thinking is too slow for the battle of echoes.”
Chuey side shuffled from Diego’s left shoulder, over the back of his neck and settled on his right shoulder, and continued: “Don’t worry, don’t worry; I’ll tell you. And I’ll keep it simple, and explain it in three steps. How does that sound to you?” The little green bird pecked at Diego’s hair and waited for an answer.
“Yes … that sounds fine,” said Diego.
“Simple, simple, simple … I perch on your head, you walk through the elastic wall and then you kill the beast on the other side of this fog barrier. Simple … oh, wait. There is a very good chance you will not succeed, which means you die across all realities. Hmmm, yes … that can happen. Still, nothing to be too concerned about, just keep it simple, silly, and only do the three steps I recommend. Now, pick up your gear. And make yourself ready.”
