Chapter-16: State of In Between

Diego coughed, turned slowly and lifted his gaze, up and up. His senses exploded. A majestic cataclysmic beast stood with a regal pose on all four legs. The beast’s shoulders reached seven times the height of Diego. Thick muscular legs, back and neck rippled as the beast moved with grace. Unbelievable, the massive thing had the wings of an eagle and the body and tail of a jaguar. Most peculiar, its head was a mix of both eagle and jaguar.

The circular patterns covering its body, tail and head were of a turquoise light. With each inhale, the turquoise pattern glowed brighter; and, when it breathed out, the turquoise glow dimmed. His large honey eyes glowed in like manner with each breath. And, the rest of his body was the color of a black galactic sky, with the sparkling and slow movements of the cosmos.

The beast’s first words overwhelmed Diego, choking him and snapping him into paralysis. The power of his words vibrated and held him in place. Diego quaked and struggled to think.

The beast’s presence pushed down on Diego from all around. It drained him of energy and left him feeling dizzy and lost. Hot liquid spread down Diego’s legs as he tried to breathe again and failed. He slammed forward, face first, into a much-needed escape.

Diego awoke and found the glorious animal from before. To his surprise, he no longer felt overwhelmed by the creature’s presence. Instead, he sensed a tranquil calm all about him.

The beast yawned and extended its massive wings out to his sides, and said, “My name is El-Gar Del’Matriz. I am of the house of Eaguar. Why are you here, young cub?”

Diego stood with noodle-like legs and angled his head far back to keep the beast in his sight. He struggled to think and to be, yet he managed to speak. He said, “I … I don’t know. My memories are lost in another place.”

“Not, true, little cub,” said El-Gar. “All that you are is here. Memories are shielded away from this space; but they remain with you. Sense them and call them, why are you here? Don’t think only of your memories; sense them within.” El-Gar stretched in a downward position and yawned and closed his eyes.

Diego forced himself to cough. He tried again and sensed deep for his memories, calling them, asking them, listening for them. And they answered.

“I’m, I’m looking for something,” said Diego with an odd face. “I’m looking for meaning and purpose in life … in my, in my life.”

“Yes, your words are true,” said El-Gar. “There is a search crying out from within your being.” The huge creature sat on his hind legs and looked at Diego. The beast’s eyes glowed and peered into him, reading him like an open book. It made Diego feel more naked than before.

“Would you like to know more?” asked El-Gar. “Would you like to see a main path from your echo of realities?”

Diego trembled with a gaping mouth, and said with tears sliding down his face, “I … I do, yes, I need to know, please.”

“Very well then, little cub,” said El-Gar, “we travel as far as your will can manage.” Diego shivered, goosebumps bursting all over him, from head to toe, to his heart and soul.
